American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare

Source: Wikipedia

So since I created this blog after I started watching American Horror Story (which was when Season 1 came out) I'm just going to give my general view of this season so far, as opposed to episode by episode which I usually do. I will probably then write a post after the last episode.

*Spoilers*

In my opinion, this season is definitely not the best. I understand the story - TV show within a TV show and people are getting murdered etc. But I feel that there is just so much unnecessary violence. I swear the writers just write scenes in order to add the most goriest death and torture scenes they possibly can. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for gore and I love slasher films. But this... it's just over the top. They are trying to hit us hard with the shock factor and to be honest, I don't like it. It's too over the top that it moves away from the story-line and makes me not want to watch it.

Like these scenes with the hillbillies - are they necessary characters so far? Not really. Okay, they were trying to buy the house because they have a pact with the Butcher and her clan to keep people off the land and, in return, she keeps their crops growing (crops as in weed, clearly). This all makes sense, BUT, I feel the intense story-line of the most recent episode was just unneeded. Their story should have ended when they brought Flora, Shelby and Matt to the Butcher. Did we really need to watch Audrey and Monet eat Lee's leg? I wanted to throw up. Furthermore, in previous episodes where: Shelby smashed Matt's head in (horrific), people getting burned alive, dead pig fetuses, Cricket Marlowe's guts getting pulled out, the list goes on... it's horrendous, and all scenes were gut wrenching. Although saying this, I feel a contradictory opinion coming here, the hillbillies seem to be an escape goat for the writers as the story in the house, well, there's just too much going on. Too many back stories - piggy man, the nurse sisters, the butcher and her clan, the witch Scathach played by Lady Gaga, plus the stories of all of the characters - Shelby, Matt, Lee. The plot of the house does not seem to be going anywhere, so they have written in these cannibalistic hillbillies to divert our attention.

I'm just wondering how this will all end? What if it's TVception and it's another TV show and they're all alive still? I don't know. No doubt there will be a massive plot twist that none of us expect.

Can I just add, Sarah Paulson's awful English accent is driving me crazy. We do not speak like that at all!!

Considering this blog is new and I haven't written about the previous seasons, (I plan on doing this) here is the list of my favourite seasons in order:

1. Asylum
2. Murder House
3. Freak Show
4. Hotel
5. My Roanoke Nightmare
6. Coven
